Accurx Scribe Policy

Introduction

East Bank Medical Centre is committed to providing safe, high‑quality healthcare. To support our clinicians with accurate and timely documentation, we are trialling the use of Accurx Scribe, a secure NHS‑approved digital transcription tool that helps create written notes from consultations.

What is AccuRx Scribe?

Our practice uses AccuRx Scribe, a digital tool that helps clinicians create accurate, clear consultation notes. Scribe listens to the consultation as the clinician speaks (or generates notes from typed prompts) and produces a draft summary.
The clinician always reviews and approves the note before it is added to your medical record.

Scribe does not make medical decisions.

Why we use Scribe

Using Scribe helps us to:

  • Improve the quality and clarity of clinical notes
  • Reduce typing during consultations, allowing clinicians to focus more on patients
  • Support more efficient documentation
  • Ensure important details are captured accurately
  • Free up clinician time for direct patient care

This is part of our continued commitment to improving services and patient experience.

How your information is used

When Accurx Scribe is used in your consultation:

  • The audio is processed securely within Accurx systems, which are used widely across the NHS.
  • The transcription is returned to the clinician to check before saving.
  • Your recording is processed for transcription only and is not stored permanently by Accurx.
  • Your medical record continues to be stored within our secure NHS clinical system as usual.

Accurx acts as an NHS Data Processor, meaning it must meet strict NHS data protection, security, and privacy standards.

Your choice and your rights

You are always in control

Before using Scribe in any consultation, your clinician will ask for your consent. You can say yes or no — whichever you prefer — and this will not affect your care in any way.

  • If you agree, Scribe may be used to help generate your consultation notes.
  • If you do not wish Scribe to be used, simply tell your clinician. The consultation will continue as normal, and your clinician will type the notes manually.
  • You can withdraw your consent at any point, including during the consultation.

Your information rights

You continue to have all the usual rights over your health information, including:

  • The right to be informed about how your data is processed
  • The right to object to Scribe being used
  • The right of access (to see your records)
  • The right to rectification, if something in your notes is incorrect
  • The right to request erasure in certain circumstances
  • The right to raise concerns or give feedback at any time

We also encourage patients to let us know if they feel any part of their consultation summary is inaccurate so that we can review and correct it promptly.

Is my data safe?

Yes.
AccuRx and their approved partners meet stringent NHS and legal standards, including:

  • UK GDPR & Data Protection Act 2018
  • NHS Data Security & Protection Toolkit
  • ISO 27001 information security certification
  • Robust privacy, security, and data‑minimization controls
  • Strict contractual and technical safeguards

Your data is never sold or used for marketing. For more information visit their privacy notice.

Quality Checks

To ensure Scribe is used safely:

  • Clinicians review all Scribe-generated notes before they are added to your record.
  • A second clinician may review a sample of consultations for quality and accuracy.
  • We monitor:
    • Clinical accuracy
    • Patient outcomes
    • Patient satisfaction
    • Time saved
    • Any errors or safety concerns
  • Any issues are logged and reviewed by our Clinical Safety Officer.

How long is the practice trialling Accurx Scribe?

East Bank Medical Centre is currently piloting Scribe for a trial period. During this time we will:

  • Gather clinician and patient feedback
  • Review accuracy and safety
  • Assess benefits to care
  • Decide whether to continue using Scribe long term

Patients may be invited to provide feedback as part of this evaluation.
