Physician Assistants

Physician Associates (PAs) are healthcare professionals who work closely with GPs to support the diagnosis and management of patients. They are highly trained, having already graduated from an undergraduate degree in a life-science based subject before completing an intensive two year Physician Associate programme at Masters level which provides them with a generalist medical education. At the end of their training they have to pass a national exam which ensures they meet nationally approved standards of training and practice. In General Practice, PAs can take medical histories, perform examinations, diagnose illnesses, analyse test results, and develop management plans for patients of all ages. They always have access to a GP for support and advice if needed.
