Electronic Prescribing Service

Electronic Prescription Service (EPS)

The Electronic Prescription Service (EPS) makes getting your medicines easier. Instead of collecting a paper prescription from the surgery, your GP can send it straight to the pharmacy or dispenser you choose. This saves you time and gives you more flexibility—whether you prefer a pharmacy near home, work, or where you shop.

What does this mean for you?

  • No need to visit the practice just to pick up a paper prescription.
  • Your prescription goes straight to your chosen pharmacy, saving you time.
  • You can choose a pharmacy near home, work, or where you shop.
  • Your medicines may be ready sooner, so you spend less time waiting.

How do you use EPS?

You’ll need to choose a pharmacy or dispenser for your prescriptions to be sent to. This is called a nomination. You can nominate:

  • A pharmacy.
  • A dispensing appliance contractor (if you use one).

Just ask your pharmacy or GP practice to set this up for you—no computer needed.

Can I change or cancel my nomination?

Yes. If you want to change your nominated pharmacy or go back to paper prescriptions, simply tell your GP or any pharmacy that offers EPS. Make changes before your next prescription is due to avoid delays.

Is EPS secure and confidential?

Absolutely. Your electronic prescription is handled by the same NHS professionals who manage paper prescriptions. It’s safe, reliable, and confidential.
